“DOUBLE DESTRUCTION” & More “JEREMIAH JEWELS”

Ahhh, the interesting little jewels & colorful expressions my ears pick up from the Scourby KJV DVD Bible while going to sleep, waking up, or half-snoozing in between. I hear them often but if I don’t write them down I forget!

So here’s one such expressive description I heard the other day while snoozing that really tickled me…

“D-O-U-B-L-E
DESTRUCTION!”

Whoa! I didn’t recall hearing/reading that one before. Lol, not just “normal” destruction but DOUBLE the dose! Ha! No one can accuse the Holy Spirit & the Bible writers of lacking “creative writing skills”!

Turns out it was Jeremiah doing the speaking re those rebellious fellow Jews that would not listen to his warning messages from the LORD & who were persecuting him. It’s at Jeremiah 17:18 to be exact:

*****

Jeremiah 17:18: “Let THEM be confounded that persecute me, but let not ME be confounded: let THEM be dismayed, but let not ME be dismayed: bring upon THEM the day of evil, and destroy THEM with DOUBLE DESTRUCTION.”

*****

Jeremiah was definitely not having a good day! I love his DOUBLE DESTRUCTION expression! Next time I’m having a bad day I’m going to borrow his verse & direct it toward the Devil!

>> “Let HIM & his demons be confounded… let THEM be dismayed… bring upon THEM the day of evil, and destroy THEM with DOUBLE DESTRUCTION… in the Lake of Fire!”

>> Ha! Jeremiah 17:18: A Perfect “Counter-Action” Verse for all the devil-inspired hassles in life! :D

As for “creative writing skills,” the Holy Spirit gets an A+++ for THIS jewel of a verse which opens the same chapter:

*****

1 The sin of Judah is WRITTEN with…

…a PEN OF IRON!

…and with the POINT OF A DIAMOND!

*****

Beautiful! What a mental picture! I want a “pen” like that so I can write one iota as creatively & descriptively as the Holy Spirit. Is that not cool or what?

Ok, so I got carried away with all the neat old pen photos at Google Images. :)

But a pen of IRON…

…regarding sin…

…with a DIAMOND ball point, hard, penetrating, & unbreakable (you can also break glass with a diamond point pen, btw, if you need a fast escape)!

And we can “cut short” any sin any time by turning from it…

We often see the “rich men hoarding up riches” verse in James used, but here’s another good one for the “evil elite money masters” from the same Jeremiah 17 chapter:

11 “As the partridge SITTETH on EGGS, and HATCHETH THEM NOT; so he that GETTETH RICHES and NOT by right, shall LEAVE THEM in the midst of his days, and at his END shall be a FOOL.”

*****

Amen to that, eh? They are sitting on their gold & silver hoards like a partridge but not using it for the benefit of the money supply. They can’t take it with them in death, so surely fools they are!

Evidently the partridge literally has a greedy thieving habit, just like the banksters…

“Partridge has the habit of stealing eggs from the nest of its congeners and of sitting upon them and that when the young are hatched, they forsake their own parents.”

More good advice from Jeremiah 17 for our times & especially this, another election year 2012:

Individuals Are Challenged to Put Their Trust in the Lord
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

~~~~~
Jeremiah 17 continues in the same chapter with the well-known verses about the heart being desperately wicked:
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
~~~~~

To wind this up, two more verses worth remembering from our beloved fellow suffering servant, Jeremiah 17:

14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

17 Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.

AMEN TO THAT & THE END!
